“I enjoy wood veneer for the variety of colour and patterns that imbue it with a living personality. Even sliced into sheets not much thicker than paper, wood veneer insists on being worked with, not used as some thing that does your bidding. Working with a material that is telling its own story within my story is a humbling and enriching experience. I am reminded of my place in a natural world.
I work with wood veneers salvaged from shop floors and also from perfect bundles coming from all parts of the globe. I shape and fit these materials together to create works of art that serve as metaphors for life, cooperation and a respect for the natural world.
The multi-ethnicity of my subjects, and the natural wood veneers used, symbolize my hope for a peaceful sustainable future.”
